Hiking Germany

We have a new side quest lined up and will hike into the far north of Germany, the "Holsteinische Schweiz" aka the Switzerland of the north. Once there, we will hike 3 unique trails alongside some iconic lakes in order to fulfil our hiking pass.

This hike is the shortest of the three hikes created by the "Lübecker Bucht Wanderthlon" or, as I call it, the Trifecta of Schleswig Holstein. The trail is about 17km. While there are three official hikes you can do, they also have a kid's version. It is called "Mads Möve Tour" and is a 4km loop around the city, past the best ice cream store, fun little dog paw hunt and a playground. All in all, a fun activity if you just want to do a tour of the town or hike with your kids.

It was a sunny and another perfect day to embark on the second hike of what I like to call the "Triple Crown of Schleswig Holstein". The triple crown officially refers to a title you earn when you finish all three long distance hikes in the US. The Pacific Crest Trail, The Continental Divide Trail and the Appalachian Trail. Of course, our triple crown only takes three days, while the original last roughly 15 months. It is still a great motivation. Follow along as we embark on this new trip.

The "De bannig groote Tour" is a 30 km long day hike that leads you from the ocean, through fields and incredibly forests before you reach the ocean again. It is not a route for beginners. It is crucial that you have great shoes with you, warm up and take enough food and water.

As a long distance hiker, I have a passion for walking everywhere. As I spend an afternoon looking for long distant hiking paths in Germany, I discovered a website called the Megamarsch. Hike 50km in 12 hours or 100km in 24 hours. All adventures start with an idea. And this idea soon turned into a bought ticket.
